5. FGM leafllet
Leaflet and Social Media Campaign
2025

This awareness leaflet explores the hidden but urgent issue of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) through impactful design and sensitive visual storytelling. Using self-illustrated, symbolic imagery, the folded cover represents both concealment and division, reflecting the physical and emotional trauma of FGM. Inside, hand-drawn diagrams and concise explanations educate readers on the four types of FGM, supported by global statistics and a compassionate message of support. The soft colour palette and careful composition maintain respect for the subject while encouraging open dialogue. This piece aims to inform, empower, and raise awareness on FGM. The social media campaign aims to bring awareness through a media that is the most accessible for the wider audience.

6. Labour
Publication
Ink Prints .

Labour is a thought-provoking publication inspired by the chorus of Paris Paloma’s song Labour, which powerfully critiques the unpaid, unacknowledged work women often endure. The book pairs these poignant lyrics with delicate rose prints that subtly resemble vulvas, creating a visual metaphor for femininity, sacrifice, and strength. Through this pairing, the project highlights how beauty and burden coexist in the expectations placed on women. The soft aesthetic contrasts with the sharp message, reinforcing the idea that women are expected to give so much—emotionally, physically, and domestically—with little recognition or return. Labour is both protest and poetry in print.

7. Sharing is caring
Concertina fold
Publication
2015

This concertina fold publication titled Sharing Is Caring explores the hypocrisy and injustice surrounding reproductive rights, focusing on the real case of Justyna Wydrzyńska—a Polish woman being prosecuted for sharing abortion pills with someone in need. The design highlights the contrast between compassion and criminalization. This piece challenges viewers to reflect on the cost of solidarity in a system where helping others is punished, turning empathy into an act of resistance.

2024

The Squeeze is a photographic sequence that visually represents the physical and emotional intensity of menstrual pain. Using the metaphor of an orange being pierced, split, and relentlessly squeezed, the piece captures the sharp, cramping sensations many experience during a period. Each frame intensifies the imagery, culminating in the fruit being placed on a sanitary pad—an evocative symbol of both release and endurance.

My name is Julita Ziara and I am a graphic designer, recently graduated from  BA Graphic Design at the University of West of England.

I strive to create thoughtful, impactful work that not only looks great but communicates clearly, finding myself gravitating more towards tackling social injustices and exploring a more physical approach to design. Anything hands on is what I love!

I am slightly obsessed with my dog, the one flying across the page, She is very cute and I hope you agree !

Let’s make something beautiful together. :)

1. Pink
Soft Cover Publication
2025

This soft cover publication explores the cultural significance, history, and evolving meaning of the colour pink, with a focus on its role in social movements, particularly feminism. Through a blend of visual research, historical analysis, and editorial design, the book challenges traditional associations of pink with softness or femininity, highlighting its powerful presence in protest and activism—from the pink triangle reclaimed by LGBTQ+ communities to modern feminist movements. Designed to provoke thought and celebrate resistance, this publication reclaims pink as a symbol of strength, solidarity, and subversion.

2. Love Hearts
Clay sculpture
2025

Love Hearts reimagines the iconic sweet to expose the harsh and often ignored realities of female contraceptive side effects. Using playful, candy-like visuals to present symptoms like depression, cancer, and pulmonary embolism, the work highlights how women’s pain is frequently dismissed in medical contexts. Beneath the sugar-coated appearance lies a bitter truth, a critique of how society packages and downplays women's health issues.

3. Miricle PillPackaging/Poster
2025

“Miracle Pill” is a provocative poster and packaging design concept that explores the 65 documented side effects of the female contraceptive pill. This project critiques how the pill is often marketed as a medical breakthrough, while downplaying the physical and emotional toll it can have on women. The concept uses pharmaceutical-style visuals with exaggerated warnings and fine print to highlight the contrast between convenience and consequence.

4. MutilatedPoster
2025

Mutilated is a powerful poster that addresses the issue of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) through symbolic visual language. At its center is a delicate flower, tightly sewn shut with visible thread—an unsettling yet poignant metaphor for the violence and silencing inflicted on millions of women and girls worldwide. The use of a flower, traditionally associated with femininity and growth, contrasts sharply with the act of mutilation.
